U potresnom, ali tankom trileru redatelja Neila Burgera The Marsh King’s Daughte, adaptiranom prema istoimenom romanu Karen Dionne, mlada Helena (Brooklynn Prince) saznaje kako je njezina bajka zapravo noćna mora. Živi u šumovitoj kolibi sa svojom strogom majkom Beth (Caren Pistorius) i ocem lovcem Jacobom (Ben Mendelsohn). Jacob često obilježava Bethinu bijelu kožu tetovažama nadahnutim domorodačkim stanovništvom i daje joj upute kako pratiti i loviti.
Međutim, kad izgubljeni lutalica na četverotočkašu dođe tražiti upute, Beth s Helenom u vozilu bježi policiji, što dovodi do Jacobovog uhićenja. Bez znanja mlade Helene, dvanaest godina prije, njezin navodno voljeni otac oteo je Beth da mu bude nevjesta.
Kao odrasla osoba, Helena (Daisy Ridley) ima kćer sa svojim suprugom Stephenom (Garrett Hedlund). Ali Stephen nema pojma o Heleninoj prošlosti. To se mijenja kada Jacob pobjegne iz zatvora. Helena odlučuje loviti Jacoba prije nego što on ukrade njezinu kćer (Joey Carson).

Dok je Mendelsohn često vješt u portretiranju zlikovaca, njegov potencijal da isporuči prijetnju ograničen je scenarijem od jedne note. Trule nijanse zelenkasto-žute rasvjete, koje bi trebale označiti skokove u prošlost, također umanjuju neizvjesnost. Ipak, igra Ridleya, zajedno s kratkom epizodnom ulogom dušebrižnog Gila Birminghama, daje potrebne uloge da Burgerov film ne besposličari u narativnom blatu.
Vjerujem da će ovaj film podjeliti filmoljupce, teško je dodati u ovu recenziju nešto više što bi nekoga natjeralo ili otjeralo od gledanja ovog filma, meni osobno je film OK. Ima par dobrih scena, duboku priču i nije kao drugi filmovi u ovome žanru. No treba li ovaj film pogledati u kinu?
