Ubisoft planira značajno promijeniti smjer Far Cry serijala, a to će učiniti tako što će serijal fokusirati na multiplayer iskustvo. Ovu informaciju potvrdio je i izvršni direktor Yves Guillemot, naglasivši da im je cilj multiplayer aspekte budućih igara staviti u prvi red, kako bi igrači mogli uživati u Far Cryu puno duže.
Ova izjava prati glasine iz 2023. godine koje su tvrdile da je Ubisoft već krenuo u razvoj Far Cry 7 i posebnog multiplayer naslova. Prema tadašnjim izvješćima, Far Cry 7 trebao bi biti razvijen u Snowdrop engineu, poznatom iz The Divisiona i nadolazeće igre iz Star Wars Outlaws serijala, dok bi multiplayer spin-off trebao biti klasična pucačina smještena u divljine Aljaske.
Podsjetnika radi, posljednji veliki nastavak serijala, Far Cry 6, donio je kooperativno igranje kroz kampanju, ali bez multiplayera. Ubisoft od tada restrukturira razvoj ovog serijala, isti je vraćen u Montreal, a došli su Sandra Warren kao izvršna producentica i Drew Holmes (scenarist Far Cry 5) kao novi IP direktor.
Ubisoft očito želi da Far Cry postane dugotrajniji naslov, slično kao što su to već napravili s The Division i Rainbow Six Siege. Hoće li novi Far Cry stvarno redefinirati serijal ili će ostati vjeran solo avanturama – tek ćemo vidjeti.
