IEM nastavlja širiti svoja natjecanja širem cijelog svijeta, a sada su odlučili na IEM Chengdu, u kojem se CS nije igrao još od CS 1.6 ere.
Posljednji CS turnir u Chengdu odigrao se 2009. kada je idalje trajala era CS 1.6. Tada je turnir osvojio SK Gaming pobjedivši u finalu protiv fnatica. Ove godine u Chengdu će se igrati Double Elimination sistem uz Playoff.
Double Elimination funkcionira tako da se podijele 2 grupe po 8 ekipa iz kojih prolaze najbolje 3 ekipe. Opening runda se igra u Bo1 formatu, a Upper Bracket i Lower Bracket mečevi u Bo3. Pobjednik grupe ide automatski u polufinale Playoffa, tako da je ovdje bitno pobjediti svaki meč.
