Vidjeli smo da je dio novog Mortal Kombat naslova i poznati belgijski glumac, te majstor borilačkih vještina Jean-Claude Van Damme. Naime on se pojavljuje kao skin za Johnny Cagea, a sada su igrači pronašli jednu referencu. Riječ je o referenci na kultni film Quentina Tarantina, Kill Bill: Vol. 2.
Ova se referenca sakrila u jednom od fatality poteza. U filmu se radi o tehnici pet preciznih udaraca u srce protivnika. Nakon njih on radi pet koraka unazad i njegovo se srce raspukne. Isti potez koristi Shujinko, samo što je u Mortal Kombat 1 ta scena malo kraća nego u Tarantinovom remek djelu.
