AMD-ov AM4 socket jedanje od najdugovječniji ikada te je prisutan od 2016. kada je zamjenio AM3+. Imao je podršku za Ryzen procesore na Zen arhitekturi, ali i nešto slabije Athlon X4 i procesore iz AMD A serije. Svoj kraj trebao je doživjeti izlaskom AM5 platforme, ali čini se kako AM4 (na aparatima) još živi.
Bilo je i vrijeme da se AMD okrene nećemu novom i to je AM5, ali velikom broju korisnika AM4 procesori u paru s DDR4 radnom memorijom i dalje obavljaju odličnan posao. Teško je, odnosno skupo preći na novu platformu jer to zahtjeva ne samo kupnju novog procesora već i matične ploče odnosno RAM-a. Naravno DDR5 znatno je skuplji nego što je to njegov prethodnik.
Najnoviji član trebao bi nositi naziv AMD Ryzen 5500X3D. Nešto slabiji od 5600X3D s baznim radnim taktom od 3.0 GHz te maksimalnom boost frekvencijom od 4.0GHz. Naravno ostaje se na 6 fizičkih odnosno 12 logičkih jezgara baziranih na Zen 3 arhitekturi. Cijenovno bi trebao biti smješten nešto ispod spomenutog Ryzen 5 5600X3D koji je po svom izlasku koštao 230$, a AMD bi tako plasiranjem 5500X3D htio ponuditi odlične gaming performanse za ispod 200$.
